One of the signings for the 2017/18 season, American Malcolm Jalell Rhett is enjoying a special moment. The number 0 has been winning over the Red-Black Nation with a diverse repertoire of plays. Rhett arrived at Flamengo after a long and difficult stint playing in the Dominican Republic. After the adaptation period, the power forward has been showing his great potential game after game, becoming an increasingly important piece of coach José Neto's team. 

Rhett's growth began to show in the first derby against Vasco da Gama, on December 30th. It was the American's return after two weeks away from the team. In ten minutes on the court, MJ scored eleven points and had blocks, showing his determination to prove his worth. The result could not have been different; after intense days of training, the young American's potential became increasingly evident.

MJ Rhett led the way in scoring in three games this season, proving to be a key player in the red-and-black rotation. Against Universo/Vitória, the power forward scored 16 points in 16 minutes, leading the matchup. Then, against Botafogo, the American showed he shines in moments of rivalry. Rhett scored ten points, grabbed eight rebounds, and put on a show for the fans. Two alley-oops brought down Arena Carioca 1 and left the Nação Rubro-Negra in raptures. Against Vasco, the number 0 was the standout once again. Taking responsibility and displaying impeccable composure, the American finished the match as the top scorer with 15 points, in one of his longest minutes in the NBB (23 minutes). 

The confirmation that MJ Rhett is the fans' new favorite came in the match against Campo Mourão. In a game marked by Anderson Varejão's debut, Rhett showed all his versatility. He had a block, a dunk, and a three-point shot. The result? Another game-high 17 points, his FlaBasquete record, and a departure to the applause of a packed Arena Carioca 1. The journey with the Sacred Mantle has begun, MJ's growth is evident, and the fans have already noticed that the American is on a beautiful journey of recovery and persistence. All that remains is to say, as the American himself emphasizes, War Rhetty!
