Clube de Regatas do Flamengo announces that coach Gustavo de Conti has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the basketball team. The club is deeply grateful for his contribution to the history of Flamengo basketball, following six years of dedication and excellent work. 

On Friday (14), Flamengo welcomes its new coach, Argentine Sergio Hernández, 61, better known as "Oveja". With a successful trajectory and a consolidated game philosophy, Hernández arrives to start a new cycle of Flamengo basketball. An Olympic medalist, the coach has accumulated achievements and experience on the international stage. 

Paulo Chupeta, coordinator of the youth teams, is also leaving the club. Chupeta made his mark on the history of Mais Querido as a coach and was an important player in the development of red-and-black basketball. The club is grateful for his dedication, professionalism, and achievements over nearly three decades of work. His legacy will forever remain in the memory of the Red-and-Black Nation.

Sergio Hernández is Flamengo's new basketball coach

Flamengo begins a new era in basketball with the arrival of Argentine Sergio "Oveja" Hernández, who has participated in four Olympic Games and won bronze in Beijing. His career is rich in victories and his playing philosophy is based on intensity, aggression, and tactical intelligence.

"Joining Flamengo is fulfilling a goal in my coaching career," Hernández declared. "I love South American basketball, which gave me my first great idols, many of them Brazilian, and among them, several who played for Flamengo."

In addition to praising the club, the coach highlighted his admiration for Flamengo basketball: "I've always been aware of Flamengo's greatness, after all, the club was the home of none other than Oscar Schmidt."  

Hernández arrives at a crucial moment in the season, with Flamengo competing in the NBB and BCLA (Champions League Americas). His debut will be on February 28th against Pato Branco in Rio de Janeiro. 

Regarding the style of play he intends to implement, Oveja was emphatic:

"I hope to convey my identity to the team. I like dynamic, aggressive basketball, with a compact defense that forces mistakes from the opponent and attacks in transition. At the same time, we have to be patient and intelligent to make the best decisions in each attack. I'm very motivated and eager to begin this new challenge with Flamengo," he concluded.
