In mutual agreement with the clubs, after a meeting held on Monday afternoon (04), the National Basketball League opted to end the 2019/20 NBB season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The competition ends without a champion and the classification order will be maintained and valid as a criterion for access to international competitions. Firstly, FlaBasquete has a place in the Champions League guaranteed next season.
"After several evaluations involving everyone involved—club directors, coaches, athletes, multidisciplinary teams, referees, sponsors—the decision to cancel the NBB was mature and responsible. Once again, everyone's unity was crucial in this decision," said Marcelo Vido, Flamengo's Director of Olympic Sports.
With 21 wins in 24 matches, the Pride of the Nation led the standings with 45 points. At the end of March, the LNB announced the end of the competition's qualifying phase, which would resume in the playoffs. The Rubro-Negro's last match in the championship was against São José, at the Linneu de Moura gymnasium, on March 5th. In overtime, FlaBasquete won the duel 102-97.
The basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – BRB, TIM, AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR) and State Incentive Law/State Secretariat of Sports, Leisure and Youth (Seelje) of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to support from the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC).
