Neto: "The moment is good, but we want more"

Coach already thinking about the next game and leaving winning streak behind

Always evolve. That's the motto of José Neto's team. Almost a mantra. And it makes sense. After each victory, the coach of the red-and-black basketball team always emphasizes the need to correct problems and further improve as a team. This Saturday, after beating Vasco da Gama 89-75, it was no different. Neto praised his players for their distribution and balance, but stated that he still wants more from the team. And he knows the team can reciprocate. Current leader of the NBB, Neto knows that nothing is decided and there is still a long way to go.

"I think that for this moment (leadership) is quite satisfactory. But for what we want, we still need to evolve as a team. We've been evolving and showing that we can do even more, and that's what we're doing every day," said the coach after the game. José Neto also heaped praise on the team, especially for their dedication on the court and their commitment to following the plan during Flamengo's busy week of training.

"Winning today was very important. We always talk about it before games, but it's important to talk about it at the end as well. A victory that has a huge significance. The players demonstrated and executed everything we planned very well, and I believe it was largely due to the week's work and the team's evolution," he said.

And if Flamengo has won eight in a row, the idea is to go for a ninth. What's been done is already behind us. The focus is on next Thursday, against Campo Mourão, at Arena Carioca 1, at 20:30 pm, when FlaBasquete will try to maintain its lead in the standings.

"We don't really think about the eight wins. It's a big mistake to play the next few matches thinking about the eight we've won. We always see the next match as the most important and the one we need to win. That's how we work, and we'll focus on that to win another one at home," the coach added.

We see a lot of this collective spirit when we look at the numbers, which reflect a lot of scoring. Today, we had five players with more than 10 points, others with nine points. But I believe the squad is more than that. We see it in the team's determination and energy defensively. If we had any merit in the victory today, it was defensive merit, which doesn't show up as much in the numbers. Much of the victory was due to our defense, coming from behind to the front, and the way we play.
