Neto participates in Estácio Basketball Seminar

Monday morning (November 16.11) was a special one for Physical Education students and basketball enthusiasts. Flamengo's partner, Estácio, held a basketball seminar to discuss the National Coaching School's coaching training project in partnership with the CBB (Brazilian Basketball Confederation). José Neto, Flabasquete coach, joined Rubén Magnano (coach of the Brazilian National Team), Marco Antonio Cabral (Secretary of Sports, Recreation and Youth of Rio de Janeiro), José Medalha (Institutional Director of the CBB), Byra Bello (Estácio professor and sports commentator), and Marco Aurélio dos Santos "Chuí" (former player and coach) in the auditorium of the João Uchoa campus in Rio Comprido, Rio de Janeiro. The audience included university students, the press, and basketball enthusiasts. Marcelo Vido, Flamengo's Executive Director of Olympic Sports, also attended the meeting.
For Flamengo's coach, the opportunity served to talk about his own experience of persevering in his career and how access to content and education made all the difference in his reaching the position of head coach of Flamengo basketball and assistant coach to Rubén Magnano on the Brazilian National Team:
"I feel a responsibility to be an example for those around me, for my children. Although I don't like to talk about myself much, I think my journey illustrates well what it means to acquire knowledge for professional growth. I came from a small town in the interior of São Paulo and today I'm here alongside extremely renowned people in the Brazilian sports scene. I think the most important part of all this is understanding that we are human beings, we are people, at the end of the day. The philosophy of education for transformation is fundamental for anyone to acquire the necessary qualifications to achieve their dreams. This initiative to foster new, highly qualified coaches is crucial for spreading the sport throughout the country. Brazilian basketball will benefit greatly from this project," stated Neto.
Before the microphone was passed to Neto, Estácio's President, Rogério Melzi, commented on Estácio's partnership with Flamengo.
"Estácio decided a few years ago to invest in sports, not to enhance our brand, but because we believe in the power of sports in shaping an individual. Sports play a very important social role, one of inclusion, of truly changing people. We combined sports and education, a model that has been used in the United States for over 100 years. Our partnership with Flamengo is very important in this regard. Seeing our brand associated with a winning, multi-champion team is sensational and serves as an example for many young people to become aware and pursue their dreams," said Melzi.
Flamengo's basketball team heads to São Paulo this Tuesday (17.11) for a sequence of two away games. The opponents are Liga Sorocabana (18.11) and Paulistano (20.11).
