On the 10th anniversary of winning gold, Marcelinho, Marquinhos and JP Batista remember the 2007 Pan American Games
Stars who play side by side today at FlaBasquete reached the highest place on the podium in the competition, in Rio

Ten years ago, the Pan American Games took place in Rio de Janeiro—and among the many athletes from the Mais Querido team who participated in the competition, some now play for the Pride of the Nation. Marquinhos and JP Batista, as well as captain Marcelinho, were part of the gold medal-winning basketball team. Today, the captain, number 10, and number 11 from Gávea recall this special moment.
Center JP Batista, one of Flamengo's standout players last season, classified that as one of the most important moments in his career.
"The 2007 gold medal is one of the memories I hold with great pride. It was one of the most memorable moments of my career. It was my first national team and I was playing at home, with a packed Arena. Winning that medal at home was indescribable. I remember the celebration very well, when I returned to Recife and was so well received, the court at my former school was named after me, it was incredible. A moment that I still remember today as one of the best of my career," said the center.
The top scorer for Rubro-Negro in the last NBB, Marquinhos guarantees: the victory in Rio is unforgettable.
"I can't forget the 2007 Pan American Games. It was a great experience, playing at home, with the fans cheering us on. I remember the first time I played at the Arena; it had a beautiful atmosphere. We won most of the matches; it was a special moment; I only have good memories," concluded the star.
Captain of Mais Querido, Marcelinho highlighted the special pleasure of being champion at home.
"It was very special for me, it was my third Pan American Games and it was incredible to be able to win Gold in front of my family and friends. Without a doubt, it had a special flavor," recalled Marcelo.
