Point guard Franco Balbi will continue to defend the Sacred Mantle in the 2020/21 season. To the delight of the World's Biggest Fanbase, the Argentine renewed his contract with the Most Beloved and will continue to lead the red-and-black squad in pursuit of its main objectives next year. A key player since arriving at Gávea in 2018, the wizard has two state titles, a Super 8 Cup, and the 2018/19 NBB under his belt.
"What made me renew with Flamengo is that we have many goals ahead of us. We have a Champions League final, which could give us a spot in the Club World Cup, and other very important tournaments to play in. I want to continue the work we've been doing, which is why I chose to stay at the club," Balbi emphasized.
In the last NBB season, Franco averaged 8,3 points, 3,9 rebounds and 7,4 assists per game and was one of the team's biggest standouts, which ended its participation in the competition at the top of the table.
Best point guard and best foreigner in the campaign for the sixth championship of Novo Basquete Brasil, the number 6 thanked the Nação Rubro-Negra for their affection since the first time he played with the Manto Sagrado.
"I'm very grateful for this relationship I have with our fans; I feel very happy to represent them. I think they like the work I'm doing here and feel well represented by me on the court, which is why we have this connection. I'm very grateful for the respect they have for me," he said.
Last season, Balbi broke the record for assists in a single match in the current edition of the national championship, with 17 against Pinheiros. Focused and motivated for another year in red and black, the Argentine has everything he needs to further cement his position as one of the red-and-black pillars and continue to make his mark on the nation's idols.
"Besides personal records, I think what's much more important is what we can achieve collectively, as a team. I'll always try to give my best, and if something else comes along this new season, it will stay in my memory too. I'll do everything I can to ensure Flamengo always wins and is champion of every competition we compete in," he concluded.
In addition to Franco Balbi, Marquinhos and Olivinha, who also had their contracts renewed, and Pedro Nunes, who already had a contract with Rubro-Negro, are guaranteed in the squad that will set out in search of the 'Retomada Das Américas' under the command of coach Gustavo De Conti.
The basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – BRB, TIM, AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR) and State Incentive Law/State Secretariat of Sports, Leisure and Youth (Seelje) of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to support from the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC).
