Celebrating a special milestone with a victory is what every player wants. Scoring the final point of the match, to the ecstasy of the fans in attendance, is even better. And having your name cheered after the game? That's the ultimate perfection. Olivinha experienced all of this on Sunday night at Arena Carioca 1, after Flamengo defeated Pinheiros 72-68 in NBB 10, marking his 200th NBB appearance for Flamengo. A milestone that demonstrates his relationship with the club, which dates back to 2002 (professionally).
Before the game, the power forward was honored for his milestone, with his name chanted by the two thousand people in the Arena. During the game, Olivinha was responsible for key moments for the team, especially in the second quarter, when he scored six points and grabbed four rebounds. After the game, the number 16 spoke about reaching 200 games.
"This game was truly special. 1 games for Flamengo. Where I grew up and spent more than a third of my life. Reaching this milestone is very special. Today everything went well. In the third quarter, we made a mistake, but everything worked out and we ended my 3th game with a flourish," said the player, who assessed the team's decline in the third quarter, allowing Pinheiros to turn the score around.
"We were ahead the whole game. In the third quarter, we faltered, but in the last quarter we regained our composure and it was a gritty victory, as is typical of Flamengo. Against Mogi, the league leader, we needed to stay focused the whole time. In the third quarter, we scored very little, and they turned it around. It's tough, ups and downs happen, but we need to work on that aspect better."
Flamengo now faces Mogi, this Tuesday at 21 p.m., also at Arena Carioca. With no time to rest, the team is already training on Monday for the clash that will be at stake for the top of the table. And against the current championship leaders, Olivinha once again relies on the support of the fans, who have been flocking to the Arena, for another victory.
"The sequence is really very difficult. Mogi is also fighting with us for the top. Tomorrow we'll be back here to train. It won't be easy, they come with confidence. But I believe that with the support of the fans we have everything we need to come away with the victory on Tuesday."
