Flamengo basketball has been on a trajectory of victories, stars and records for some time now. With the fifth title achieved last Saturday (11), Marquinhos, Olivinha, Gegê, Marcelinho and José Neto joined the select group of four-time consecutive champions in the history of team sports in Brazil. Present in the last four NBB CAIXA titles, the quintet equaled the feat of great names in the sport: athletes Cadum, Pipoka and Israel and coach Edvar Simões, who defended the colors of the now-defunct but very traditional Monte Líbano, achieved the milestone in the 1980s.
In Marcelinho's case, the record is even more impressive. It was the captain's hands that lifted Flamengo's five trophies in the tournament. Marquinhos, alongside the number 4, is one of the team's most experienced players and was named NBB MVP this season for the second time. Only the two have won this award twice in the National Basketball League (LNB) awards. Gegê, on the other hand, left the Flamengo youth academy—and the stands of Maracanã—to represent his beloved club's professional basketball team and win every NBB championship he played in. For Olivinha, the highlight is his grit and enthusiasm—along with his technique and statistics—that won the hearts of the Flamengo Nation.

For Flamengo, their fourth consecutive title also meant surpassing Monte Líbano in the ranking of the most successful Brazilian basketball champions in history. The club moved into third place with six titles—five NBBs and one CBB Brazilian Championship—behind only Franca, with 11 titles, and Sírio, with seven. On the international stage, it's worth remembering that only Sírio and Flamengo are world champions in Brazil.
