For Gustavo De Conti, Flamengo's debut exceeded expectations

Coach approves team's performance, which had several factors against it this Saturday

Gustavo De Conti officially began his journey as coach of FlaBasquete this Saturday. Nothing better than starting the journey with a victory. And even more so a victory that he himself indicated exceeded expectations. After Flamengo's 67-57 win over Botafogo, Gustavinho was relieved with the game and more than satisfied with the team's performance. After all, many new things were on the court, not only in terms of players, but also philosophy, jersey, opponent, and style of play...

According to the coach, the match turned out better than expected, and he had nothing but praise for his players after the victory.

"It was even better than I expected. For several reasons. First, the physical aspect, which is still very good physically and that counts for a lot. In some plays we tried to go inside and our legs gave out and we lost the ball alone. Another point is Botafogo itself, a very good team, very well organized, with us playing away from home and without fans. The team cohesion, which is not yet the cohesion we would like. And, finally, the emotional aspect of a debut. So I think it was better than I expected. We reached the final two or three minutes with the game under control," said Gustavo.

With the game schedule now interspersed with training, Flamengo will be tested against other teams and should see greater improvement. This is what the coach is counting on, in addition to the arrival of David Nesbitt, expected this week, and the return of Kevin Crescenzi, who injured his ankle. Therefore, Gustavo De Conti doesn't want to make any predictions about when the team will be at its "ideal point."

"It's difficult to predict when the team will be at its peak. Training by training, game by game, we'll evolve. With games, the improvement is faster. It's not like training alone. When there's a game, there's another team to compare to, there's a confrontation, it gets better. The time depends on many things. David arrives this week, Kevin is also recovering. So we hope to have everyone available to evolve faster," concluded Gustavinho.
