One of the players who will take the court defending the Sacred Mantle in the Liga das Américas Final Four—a first in the club's history—is young point guard Gegê. At just 23 years old, the athlete will have the chance to play in the semifinal against Aguada (URU) on March 21st, in front of the Flamengo fans at Maracanãzinho. Participation in the Final Four isn't the only new experience for Gegê, as the point guard has never played at the historic stadium wearing a Flamengo jersey.

 

"It will be my first basketball game on our biggest stage. I consider it a privilege to be able to play there, especially in a crucial match like this (semifinal against Aguada). The anticipation is immense; it's an unprecedented title for Flamengo, and I think for all of us who will step onto the court. We have a huge desire to win the trophy. We know that to make history anywhere, you have to win. Winning this title is essential because, besides being champions, we would be stamping our passport to the World Cup. We are very motivated and focused on pursuing this achievement," he assured.

 

The point guard believes that the path to victory over the Uruguayan team lies in a consistent performance from the team's defense.

 

"I think our defense has been outstanding, and that makes it easier for us to play on the counterattack. Our points average in the Liga das Américas is very high, and here at home, with a full Maracanãzinho and the fans behind us, that has to prevail. Their team is highly qualified, but we'll defend strongly to have peace of mind in attack," he concluded.
