Newly signed center Rafael Mineiro participated in his first official event for the Rubro-Negro this Thursday (15.10). He was at the NBA Cares event that reopened the Santos Anjos school court, renovated in a partnership between the NBA, Amway, Orlando Magic and Flamengo, in Cruzada São Sebastião. Cruzada is a housing complex located in Leblon, where the Rubro-Negro idols Adílio and Júlio César "Uri Geller" were raised.
Bringing two games against NBA teams in the USA with him, he explained how his experience and that of Mais Querido against North American teams could be decisive in the NBA Global Games Rio 2015, which will be played on Saturday (17.10). Buy your ticket.
"I think the more international matches you play in your career, the more experience you gain. The more matches you play against NBA teams, the more benefits you'll definitely gain on the court. Having played with Bauru there will help you a lot more in this challenge and throughout the season," he revealed.
He recalled that he already knows not only the Fla Basquete athletes, but also the team's most important player: the red-black fans.
"I already know most of my teammates. So I basically know how it works, but arriving at Flamengo is always a big expectation because it's a Nation, a club with a jersey. I already got goosebumps just playing against them. And now, on Flamengo's side and, in a unique experience, playing against an NBA team is wonderful. Finding a crowd like that supporting you will be incredible," praised Mineiro.
In addition to the Global Games, the athlete will also play in the NBB. You can secure your spot to cheer for FlaBasquete throughout the national competition with Fla-Passe. Fan members have a discount on the Pride of the Nation Seanson ticket. Click here and learn more.
For the center, despite the difference between basketball in the United States and Brazil, Flamengo has a chance to surprise. He recalled the Mais Querido's strong performances in 2014 and its experience this year.
"There's a big difference in physicality. In basketball itself, they're good and well-trained, but I don't see a big difference. Flamengo has every chance of doing well. I watched the 2014 games and played for Bauru this time, and the point difference doesn't really tell you what the game was like. In the end, you end up getting more tired because the games are longer and the rules are different. But we have a chance, especially because they think Brazil doesn't have as much strength, but we can surprise tactically and physically," he concluded.
The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo adult basketball team receives direct funding from its sponsors – SKY, Estácio, and Peugeot – as well as investments from Tim through the State Sports Incentive Law/State Secretariat of Sports, Leisure, and Youth (ICMS). You can also contribute to the development of new FlaBasquete athletes by becoming a Red-Black Guardian Angel. Simply transfer up to 6% of your income tax due and receive your contribution back in your income tax refund. The program will be back on air soon.
