A classic in Brazilian sports, with varying effects for each team. With their 67-66 victory over Bauru in their opening match, Minas Gerais is looking to take a big step toward qualifying for the South American Basketball League final. Flamengo, meanwhile, needs to bounce back at all costs from their previous loss, when they were defeated by Instituto de Córdoba 91-84.

Both teams will be looking for a win, and Minas needs to break the stranglehold of not beating Mengão since 2014 in the NBB. Since then, Minas has won 10 games and 10 matches. Yesterday, Minas beat Bauru. They'll be rooting for them today. But first, they need to get past FlaBasquete.  

MINAS TENNIS CLUB

One of the country's most traditional clubs, a century-old club and a benchmark in Olympic sports, Minas, along with Flamengo, has participated in every edition of the NBB. They have yet to be crowned champions, and their best finish was third in the first season, 2008-09. In the current edition, Minas sits in sixth place, with four wins in eight games. The two teams have yet to face each other. The first match is scheduled for December 15th in Belo Horizonte.  

In the South American League

Minas's ticket to the semifinals came hard-won. The team began the competition in the extremely difficult Group C, alongside the traditional Quimsa of Argentina, Bauru, and Chile's Fastbreak. It was the victory over Fastbreak that secured the team a spot in the next round. With a 91-74 score, Minas managed to sustain itself after two losses (70-75 to Bauru; 57-74 to Quimsa) and advance as the best third-place team among the participants. With a -5 margin, they were far behind Welcome, who scored -14 and bowed out of the competition.  

Keep an eye

Power forward Wesley is the team's standout player in the competition. With 57 points in 111 minutes played, he is the team's top scorer. At 23 years old, he is in great form and sHe will be a point of great attention for Gustavo De Conti's team. He's 1.99m tall, shoots 54% from two and 40% from beyond the arc, the second-best on the team. 

Another player worth paying close attention to is winger Che Bob. The 1.98'11" American averages 58 points, but he's the most accurate in close-range shooting (41%) and long-range shooting (27%). And, of course, we can't forget point guard Gegê Chaia. At XNUMX, the player is one of the best in Brazil at his position and can organize the Minas Gerais team with precision.
