Renewed! Jhonatan Luz remains with FlaBasquete for another season

NBB champion for Mais Querido, the number 7 begins his third year wearing the Sacred Mantle

There's more renewal in the area! Jhonatan Luz signed a contract with FlaBasquete and will continue to play for Manto next season. The 33-year-old wing, who joined Mais Querido in 2018, has already won an NBB title, the Super 8 Cup, and two state championships with Orgulho da Nação.

For the athlete, the early end of Novo Basquete Brasil and the postponement of the Champions League final shortly after Rubro-Negro qualified for the final left him wanting more.

"It's a privilege to renew with the club because I think something was missing. Not finishing last season only increased my desire to wear the Sacred Mantle and play for Flamengo again," said Jhonatan.

Having played for the Brazilian national team, the winger has also played in Spanish basketball. Now, he's facing his 12th season in the NBB. The biggest challenge, however, comes first. The Champions League final, postponed until the second half of the year due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, will be FlaBasquete's first match of the 2020/21 season.

"We have high expectations for this title. I'm counting on the nation's support for another season. May it be a glorious one. We're in this together," the number 7 assured.

Olivinha, Marquinhos, and Franco Balbi also renewed their contracts with the Mais Querido, while Argentine Chuzito González was the first signing. Pedro Nunes, with a two-year contract, remains in the squad under coach Gustavo De Conti.

The basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – BRB, TIM, AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR) and State Incentive Law/State Secretariat of Sports, Leisure and Youth (Seelje) of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to support from the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC).
