Flamengo ended its participation in the South American Basketball League this Thursday, beating Estudiantes (Argentina) at Tijuca Tênis Clube by 89-75. With two losses, the team failed to qualify for the final stage and will have to compete in the NBB to return to the League of the Americas.
The game's top scorer with 19 points, shooting guard Ronald Ramon didn't take any credit for himself and praised his teammates, showing that each person's individual side will always be the result of the team working together.
"Our team has players ready to step in at any moment and help. What we need to do is be more consistent day to day, especially on defense, which will give us the victory in the end. Today it was me, tomorrow it will be someone else. What we need is to be aggressive. Every game is worth something, and we have to always play that way," said the number 14.
The campaign didn't go as the team hoped. Losses in the final seconds of the first two matches left a scar. In the third game, Flamengo far outplayed Estudiantes for most of the match, leading to a 14-point final score. Ramon acknowledges the poor performance, but he has the recipe for success in the NBB: hard work.
"We know the games weren't what we expected, but it's the beginning of the season. We know we have to improve every day and compete more. The NBB is the championship we have ahead of us, and we need to focus now. We know we have to improve to be champions.
Five-time NBB champion, Flamengo debuts this Tuesday, against Paulistano, in São Paulo, at 19:30 pm.
