Dominican shooting guard Ronald Ramon arrived at Flamengo with five seasons of experience in the New Basketball Brazil (NBB) under his belt, but he had to win his first Brazilian title this year, defending the Manto Sagrado. With his contract renewed for another season with the Mais Querido, the athlete will seek more achievements for the Pride of the Nation.
The 30-year-old, 1,86'26" player appeared for Flamengo in 192 games last season, scoring 57 points and 4 assists. He was one of the team's standout performers in the playoffs, particularly in Game XNUMX of the semifinal against Mogi. Thanks to a stellar performance by leading scorer Ramon, who made seven three-pointers on seven attempts, Flamengo won and advanced to a fifth game in Rio de Janeiro, advancing to the final against Bauru.
Additionally, we'd like to pay tribute to athlete Luiz Otávio Guimarães, our own Mingau, who, having reached the age limit for the youth teams, will not have his contract renewed. To my dear Mingau, thank you so much for honoring our Sacred Mantle these past years. You were part of the history of the "Champion of Everything" group, and we wish you the best of luck in your continued career.
For the 2016/17 season, the core group of players over 22 years old - Ronald Ramon, Ricardo Fischer, Humberto, Marcelinho, Marquinhos, Olivinha, Rafael Mineiro and JP Batista - is assembled and complete for us to resume training in August.
From now on, potential reinforcements will be carefully analyzed according to budget conditions, and in accordance with observations and opportunities that arise.
Our priority in the short term is to define the composition of the group of athletes under the age of 22 who, in addition to competing in championships in the category, have the full capacity to contribute to Flamengo in the season in the main team, which promises to be victorious again for the Pride of the Nation.
