Red-blacks on top of the podium at the Military World Games
Point guard Fred and center Wagner help the basketball team win gold

Flamengo took the top spot on the podium at the Military World Games in Rio de Janeiro last Sunday (July 24.07). With point guard Fred and center Wagner, stars of the red-and-black team, the men's basketball team won the gold medal by beating Greece 76-64 at the HSBC Arena. The United States took the bronze medal by beating South Korea 84-83.
Brazil suffered only one defeat in the competition, in its debut, against the strong Lithuanian team: 65 x 61. After that, the team defeated Italy (73 x 64), Kazakhstan (59 x 47), Qatar (64 x 53), Uzbekistan (88 x 50) and Trinidad and Tobago (67 x 42). In the semifinal, the most anticipated game of the tournament, the team beat the United States (59 x 52), with a great performance by the red-black Fred.
This Monday (July 25.07), champions Fred and Wagner will join the other Flamengo players in the official presentation of the red-black team for the 2011/2012 season. The event will take place at 10 am, in the Rogério Steinberg auditorium, at the club's headquarters, in Gávea. The team's new signings will also be announced on the occasion.
