There's a new foreigner in the box! Nicolas "Penka" Aguirre is the second confirmed signing for FlaBasquete for the 22/23 season. A classic and experienced point guard with a good shot from the perimeter, the Argentine has been confirmed for the Flamengo squad, led by coach Gustavo De Conti, and will wear the number 7 jersey.
"I'm very happy, and I thank the club for trusting me. We all know how great Flamengo is; we have many challenges ahead, and we'll fight for them. We'll leave Flamengo at the top, as it deserves. I hope to see you soon," said the athlete.
Standing at 1,89'34" and 2015 years old, the player is a six-time Argentine champion, champion of the Liga de las Américas, and, in 2015, was the Argentine League MVP. Penka began his career with Quilmes de Mar del Plata, then played for Boca Juniors, La Unión Formosa, Quimsa, Juventud Sionista, and Quimsa again, before playing for San Lorenzo. After a stint with Regatas Corrientes, he currently plays for Peñarol. A member of the Argentine national team, he played in the XNUMX Pan American Games in Toronto.
"The basketball culture in Argentina is unique. It's no surprise that Flamengo's success has been driven by stars like Filloy, Laprovittola, Herman, and Balbi. Penka Aguirre will be our next choice. His successful career is filled with achievements and MVP titles. He's an international player. He'll make a unique point guard duo alongside Yago. We're building a squad to enter every competition we compete in as favorites," said Guilherme Kroll, Flamengo's vice president of Olympic Sports.
At FlaBasquete, Penka joins the club's new power forward Gabriel Jaú, team captain Olivinha, and point guard Yago, already confirmed for the squad led by Gustavo De Conti. The Pride of the Nation's main goal this year is to win the Champions League of the Americas, as well as the NBB, the Super 8 Cup, and the State Championship.
