Seven athletes from Flamengo's youth basketball team have been called up to the Rio de Janeiro under-17 squad. Flamengo has the most players called up to compete in the 2012 Brazilian Championship, which will be held from April 8 to 15. Daniel Pereira, Douglas Sales, Fernando Nogueira, Leonardo Medeiros, Lucas de Souza, and Gabriel Fiuza are the Flamengo players who will represent Flamengo in the competition.

In addition to the athletes, Flamengo coach Leonardo Bruno was called up to lead the team and was very pleased with the opportunity to be with his athletes on the team.

"I was very happy with this call-up, as it was my first. I had already traveled with the national team three times as an assistant coach, and this is my first as a coach. It's a great opportunity to have so many players from our squad on the team, and it will be a great exchange with the rest of the players. I hope to have a great campaign with the boys," said the coach.

Rubro-negro Douglas Sales, also very enthusiastic, intends to give his best in the competition.

"Being called up to the Rio de Janeiro national team made me very happy. My expectations are the best possible. I hope to be able to showcase everything I've been showing in training," said the player.
