The latest signing to arrive in Gávea during FlaBasquete's golden year, Lucas Martinez, has renewed his contract with the club! The point guard, who holds dual Mexican and American citizenship, signed a contract extension and arrives at the club this weekend.
The Sniper was MVP in last season's second World Cup win. In 2020/21, Martinez had already won the Super 8, NBB, and Champions League with the Manto Sagrado. A native of North Dakota, the 1.93'32" tall, XNUMX-year-old athlete represents the Mexican national team.
"I'm very excited to be back defending the Nação Rubro-Negra! I've worked hard over the past few months to be physically prepared, give my all, and help Flamengo become the best again and win more championships. I'll also be more prepared mentally, as this will be my third season with the club. I can't wait to wear the Mengão colors again and fight with the coaching staff and my teammates," said Martinez.

"Luke reached the peak of his career at the Club World Cup, winning MVP. He was a decisive and influential player in Flamengo's second championship title. Afterward, he suffered an injury and opted to stop playing to recover. He didn't play in the Mexican championship, has recovered, and returns to Flamengo ready to be our Sniper once again. He's a player who will make a difference, both in the Champions League and in the NBB," said Guilherme Kroll, Flamengo's vice president of Olympic Sports.
Luke arrives in the first phase of NBB 15, with FlaBasquete in second place overall, and before the team's debut in the Champions League, scheduled for December 13, in Uruguay.
