Not even the strong heat wave that hit Rio de Janeiro this Saturday (15) was able to stop FlaBasquete. Under the watchful eye of the new coach, Sérgio “Oveja” Hernández, who was at Tijuca Tênis Clube, the team led by interim coach Fernando Pereira beat Unifacisa by 85 to 71. With the victory, Mais Querido reaches its eighteenth victory in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), one of the tournament's leaders.

The leading scorer and standout performer of the match was point guard Alexey Borges. Beyond his impressive 27 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds, the number 47's impact was felt in the second quarter, when Flamengo trailed by nine points, and Alexey led the surge that culminated in the Mais Querido's comeback before halftime. Now, the Pride of the Nation is enjoying a 13-day layoff due to the international basketball break.

Flamengo started the game finding success in the paint, with the team's first 12 points coming from inside the paint. Gui Deodato—as always—converted FlaBasquete's first perimeter shot of the game. The two teams traded baskets until the end of the quarter, which ended with a three-pointer from the opposing team as the clock expired, making it 17-22.

2st Bedroom
The second half featured a first and last name: Alexey Borges. The red-and-black point guard scored 11 points—converting three three-pointers—added four assists, and had three rebounds in the ten minutes before halftime alone. This impact on the scoreboard: the Mais Querido went into the locker room with a six-point lead, 4-47.

3st Bedroom
The shift in control from the previous quarter was felt by both teams—and Flamengo took advantage to open up a further lead. With sharp aim, the red-and-black team converted 70% of its attempted points during the third quarter and opened up a 7-point lead: 71 to 58.

4st Bedroom
In the final quarter, Unifacisa leveled the score again. Just as the opposing team was attempting a comeback, Alexey and Gui Deodato made two consecutive steals, restoring Flamengo's fans' peace of mind. On their final possession, Flamengo ran out the remaining time: 85-71.

Next challenge
The Pride of the Nation returns to the court on Friday of Carnival (28) to face Pato Basquete, at 20 pm, in Rio, in another round of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB).
