The 19th South American Basketball Tournament took place this past weekend in Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul, and Flamengo's youth teams made their mark in the international competition. After the under-13 team finished fourth overall in their category in the first stage of the competition, it was the turn of the under-14 and under-15 teams to take the court. Between July 28th and August 2nd, the "Mais Querido" competed alongside teams from across the country, in addition to the South American teams present. After finishing third in their group in the qualifying round, Flamengo's under-15 team competed in the silver bracket, finishing fourth in their group and 12th overall. The under-14 team qualified for the gold bracket, reaching the final. The Mais Querido boys lost to the Rio Grande do Sul team Cestinha 35-48 in the final, taking the silver medal in their group and 2nd place overall.

The red-and-black player Magno Faria, from the under-14 team, was chosen by the event organizers as the best defender of the championship, being elected to the Golden Team of the 19th South American Championship.
