Flamengo's under-20 basketball team took to the court this Wednesday morning (25) for another challenge in the Basketball Development League (LDB), of the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC). The boys did not give up and there was no lack of fight and commitment until the last seconds, but the red-black team was defeated by the opponent, Franca, by 75 to 44. The stage for the duel was the Hélio Maurício gymnasium, at the club's social headquarters, in Gávea, which hosted the first stage of the competition.

This was the last round of the first half of the opening phase of the LDB. In four games, the team won one and lost three - one of them in overtime, by just one point, for Minas.

After a tough defeat in the first quarter (6-21), Flamengo reacted and won the second quarter 16-13, but Franca, already with a large advantage gained in the first ten minutes of the game, recovered in the third period (12-23) and only needed to manage the advantage in the last quarter. The standout player for Flamengo in the match was point guard Léo Santos, the game's top scorer with 19 points, as well as three rebounds and two steals.

The competition continues in November in São Paulo. The eight best teams out of the ten competing teams advance to the second phase and form two groups. After the matches between the groups, the top two from each group advance to the semifinals. The winning semifinalists compete for the title. Flamengo has two trophies from the competition, which is in its eighth edition and has already revealed former Flamengo players such as Gegê, Cristiano Felício and Ricardo Fischer, having been champion in 2011 and 2013.
