Qualified for the final hexagonal of the Olympic Development League (LDO) – the Brazilian under-21 championship – with one round to spare, Flamengo crushed Franca, 86 x 50, in the last round of the qualifying phase, on Sunday morning (16.10), in São Sebastião do Paraíso (MG). The red-black campaign was impeccable: seven games and seven wins and the sole leadership of group A.
On Saturday, the team had already defeated the last undefeated team in the tournament, Paulistano, by 84 x 64, thus ensuring qualification for the final phase.
Once again, Fred Duarte was the star of the show, with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Gegê also stood out.
"We grew a lot during the competition and went through each stage until we reached today's match (Sunday), with a chance of returning home undefeated. We achieved our goal. I'm very satisfied," said the Rio team's manager, Paulo Chupeta.
