Three young talents join the under-22 team
João Felipe and Gabriel dos Santos compete in the third stage of the LDB qualifiers; Pedro Abbade has been part of the team since the last stage of the competition

FlaBasquete has added three new players to its youth academy. The club's under-22 squad now includes Pedro Abbade, João Felipe, and Gabriel dos Santos, who will compete in the Basketball Development League (LDB) and have contracts until the end of this year. The boys' coach, Rodrigo Silva, commented on the signings of these young talents.
"Expectations are high for their arrival. It improves the quality of the team, although we haven't yet been able to replace two important players we lost at center. Gigante went to the United States and Miguel broke his finger. Both are sorely missed and make a huge difference in the game because of their height. On the other hand, we've gained some good players. João Felipe and Gabriel will play in this next stage of the LDB, and in the last stage, we already gained Pedro. We still have players who play for the Brazilian National Team in the U-17 South American Championship, and we also miss them," analyzed Rodrigo, who is José Neto's assistant coach on the professional team.
Rubro-Negro did not have a good start in the LDB, with a team much younger than that of the opposing teams and with changes on the court and in the work philosophy (situation clarified by the vice-president of Olympic Sports, Alexandre Póvoa: read more), but Rodrigo believes in the boys’ evolution in the competition.
"We'll try to do our best, play better than we did in the last stage. The team has been improving in training. We hope they can improve now in Santos (Flamengo's next LDB headquarters)," he concluded.

HISTORY: At 18, he moved to the United States, where he played four years at Western Wyoming Community College and Southeastern Oklahoma State. His father was a basketball coach. He came from Palmeiras.

John Philip
AGE: 26/02/1994 (21 years old)
HEIGHT: 1,86m
POSITION: 2 - wing/point guard
HISTORY: He came from Regata de Campinas; he has played for the teams of Mococa, Franca and Rio Claro.
STRENGTHS: Inside Hit, Defense, Leadership
Gabriel dos Santos
AGE: 16/01/1993 (22 years old)
HEIGHT: 1,93m
POSITION: 2 - wing/point guard
HISTORY: He came from the United States, from the Jacksonville State University team, a childhood friend of Pedro Abbade.
STRENGTHS: Skill with the ball, good 1v1 game, very offensive.
