Anderson Varejão completed one year with Flamengo this week. In his 365 days defending the Sacred Mantle, the Flamengo center won the 2018/19 Campeonato Carioca and the Copa Super 8 title, securing Mengão's spot in the Liga das Américas for the second half of 2019. Throughout the history of the NBB, Varejão has averaged 9 points and 6,5 rebounds per game. This season, the number 17 has 7,2 points and 6,2 rebounds per game.

In an interview, Varejão spoke about completing a year wearing the colors of his favorite club

"I'm happy to complete a year at my favorite club. I hope we can continue bringing joy to the nation. This year we've already won the Carioca and Super 8, unfortunately we didn't win the South American, but now our focus is on the NBB and whatever comes next, and we'll try to win and bring joy to our fans," he said. Anderson concluded by explaining the period of adaptation in Brazilian basketball.

"There was a period of readaptation to Brazil. I hadn't played for two years and had only played two friendlies with the national team, so I needed a better sequence. The preseason was very important for me. We know we have a new group, different from last year, but this sequence was great for me. Physically, I feel much better now, so now I have to stay focused on continuing the good results for the nation. My big goal is to give my best every day and the titles will be a consequence", he concluded.

Debut

Varejão made his debut with the Sacred Mantle in the match against Campo Mourão on February 01, 2018. In the duel, the Mais Querido won by a score of 92-69, crowning the beginning of the athlete's career with Mengão. Anderson finished the game with 4 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in 17 minutes on the court.
