Two meters and nine centimeters tall, 27 years old and with a lot of energy. This Átila dos Santos, Flamengo's number 50, in his first competition wearing the Sacred Mantle. A mantle that he so extols on his Twitter profile, to his almost one thousand followers, who were thrilled with the player's gala performance on Saturday night (27.11), against Quimsa.

He started on the bench as an option, but ended up playing 27 minutes, fifteen more than the starter, Bábby. And he didn't disappoint: he immediately recorded a double-double, with 21 points, leading Flamengo in the game, and 12 rebounds. He also had two steals and two blocks. Humble, he praised the team and expressed confidence in giving the fans "something special" on Sunday (November 28.11).

"It was an important victory for the club and for the fans. It's the first time we've played in the South American Championship here in Rio, and we want to win the title, something special. The game will be tough, for sure. Facing their team is difficult, but we're going to go after this title. Being the top scorer isn't important to me. What mattered was the result we got in the end," he said.

His impressive numbers earned Átila the nickname "Dwight Howard from Bahia," after the NBA's Orlando Magic center, one of the most dominant in the game. With a good sense of humor, he says he does model himself on the American player, but hopes to build his own name in national and international basketball.

"I'm Átila dos Santos (laughs). But he's a great player, I watch him a lot and now I want to make a name for myself, right?", he added.
