When Marcelinho signed with Flamengo in mid-2007, he demonstrated his determination to make history wearing the jersey of his beloved club. And the number 4 has been achieving his goals. The top scorer in the last two National Championships and the 2009 South American League, the player achieved another impressive feat last Sunday. With 63 points, he not only stood out in the game against São José but also broke the Novo Basquete Brasil individual scoring record.

Less than two months after reaching this milestone, with "just" 45 points, he made history again. Like Kobe Bryant, who scored 81 points on January 22nd against the Toronto Raptors in an NBA game, the Flamengo's top scorer has already scored over 3000 points for Flamengo. In the 2008 Men's National Championship, he scored 732 points, and in 2009, 1047. In last year's South American League, the Flamengo captain scored 161.

"I never know how many points I'm scoring. In the last quarter, after I scored sixty points, someone on the bench told me. Even then, I didn't believe it. It's a lot. I don't think any player is sure how many points they're scoring on the court. We know when we're having a good day, that's all. But honestly, I didn't imagine I had scored so many points," explained Marcelinho.

This time, in addition to scoring, the athlete also broke the record for most made 3-pointers, which had been held by Joinville point guard Manteguinha with nine. He converted 16 of 21 attempts. With this feat, Marcelinho surpasses world basketball records. In the Spanish League, the most made three-pointers belongs to Oscar, who made 11 of 19 attempts in 1993/1994. In the NBA, Kobe Bryant, in 2003, and Donyell Marshall, in 2005, both made 12 shots in a single game.

"The other day, I was watching an NBA game with my wife and there was a report about Kobe Bryant scoring 81 points. The plays were shown and he was commenting on them, so I jokingly told her that, on an inspired day, I'd suddenly reach 50 points. Today I was very happy, and this record was the result of our team's great work," he concluded.
