Flamengo qualified for the semifinals of the Liga das Américas with three wins in the first phase and is now fighting for a place in the Final Four alongside its opponents in Group F: Brasília, an old acquaintance from the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) finals; Correcaminos, a Panamanian team already defeated in the qualifiers; and Guaros de Lara, the Venezuelan hosts. In an interview with the Official Website, coach José Neto spoke about the expectations for each of the matches.
Undefeated in the first phase, along with Bauru and Mogi das Cruzes, who have already qualified for the Final Four, Flamengo already has a derby against Brasilia ahead of them. In their three games, Brasilia lost to Capitanes de Arecibo (94-93) and then beat Capitalinos de la Habana (99-60) and Guaros de Lara (75-73).
Correcaminos beat Aguilas de Tunja (74 to 71) and Gimnasia Indalo (60 to 54) by balanced scores and lost to Rubro-Negro by 68 to 61. Venezuelans from Guaros de Lara easily beat Capitalinos de la Habana (91 to 65), got into the second round against Capitanes de Arecibo (92 to 85), but lost - by a hair - the last round to Brasília (75 to 73).
According to team captain Marcelinho Machado, concentration is essential to avoid mistakes and win in the details.
"We can't afford to hesitate. Our first game will be against Brasília, a big opponent of ours in the NBB. We have to start off on the right foot. We'll do our best to try to qualify in this decisive stage of the LDA," said the number 4.
