Host of Group E of the second phase of the Liga de las Américas, Veracruz is Mexico's most important port. Located on the Gulf Coast, 140 km southeast of Xalapa, the capital of the state of Veracruz, and approximately 390 km from Mexico City, the city is famous for its music, dances, and especially Carnival, the state's most important event.

This week, however, the public's attention will be focused on basketball, a very popular sport in the area. League matches will be played at the Benito Juarez Auditorium, home of the Halcones Rojos. With a capacity of 3, the arena is exclusively for basketball games. All seats are numbered, and during the regular season, they sell for an average of $50. At the entrance, there's a store selling home team merchandise, with t-shirts, caps, keychains, mugs, and other items.

Another attraction of Veracruz is its beaches with gentle waves, ideal for diving in the reef zones. The architecture of its historic buildings also draws attention, such as the Lighthouse, the Post Office Building, the Santiago Bastion, and the San Juan de Ulúa Fortress, built in the middle of the sea and now a museum chronicling the port's history.

Around Veracruz are the archaeological site of Cempoala, the Pico de Orizaba National Park, with the highest volcano in the country, and the picturesque town of Tlacotalpan, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
