Flamengo will have to play the Novo Basquete Brasil final without one of the championship's best players. Point guard Vitor Benite is not physically fit to play against Uberlândia because he suffered a right thigh injury last Saturday (May 25.05), when the Mais Querido beat São José and qualified for the final.

"Unfortunately, this is a very difficult time for me. After a year of work, I won't be able to play in the final. Now, my role is to be by the team's side, supporting them, giving them lots of encouragement, and cheering them on from the court. I won't be able to help by playing, but I'm sure that, together with Marcelinho, I'll play a role in giving the players confidence. I did everything I could to come back and believed until the very end, but it doesn't just depend on me. The injury is very serious," said Benite.

Benite suffered a muscle strain in the back of his right thigh. Dr. Claudio Cardone, Flamengo's basketball team physician, spoke about the shooting guard's injury: "It was an acute injury, the kind that doesn't "warn" you when it's coming. Last Sunday, we treated him for pain relief, and on Monday, we had an MRI that confirmed the injury. The minimum expectation is that he'll be back on the court within a month. Now, he's undergoing complete rest for his leg and physical therapy."
