Vitor Boccardo and Rodrigo Galego take charge of the U-14 and U-19 teams
The arrival of coaches is part of the renewal process of the youth basketball teams of the red-black team.
By Victor Cachoeira - inThere's exciting news coming to Gávea! Rodrigo Galego and Vitor Boccardo are the new coaches for the Under-19 and Under-14 basketball teams. Their arrival is part of the restructuring and renewal process for the youth categories at Flamengo.

In an interview with the Official Website, basketball manager Diego Jeleilate spoke about the arrival of the new coaches and the process being carried out in the Flamengo youth system.
"Since we arrived, we've analyzed the entire profile of Flamengo's youth categories and, within that analysis, we saw some points that could be improved and would need some changes. We opted to change coaches and add another person. It was a lengthy process of filtering and choosing this professional, in which we arrived at a great profile of a young man with very high potential, which is the case of Vitor, and who will fit well into our youth development project up to 14 years old, which seeks more to develop the athlete than to win at any cost. We also brought in Rodrigo, who is from Rio de Janeiro but was based in Brasília and coached Blumenau, who will be in charge of the U-19 team and help bridge the gap between the senior team and the youth system. It's a process that was already announced; changes already occurred in 2018 that had positive effects and that continue so that development is even greater than last year. They are two professionals I trust and who I think will add a lot to Flamengo," Jeleilate highlighted.
After a stint with Blumenau basketball in the last Liga Ouro (Gold League), Galego arrives at Flamengo to lead the team that will compete in the Campeonato Carioca (Rio de Janeiro State Championship) and seek their third LDB (Liga de Desenvolvimento de Basquete - Basketball Development League) title. The coach has a degree in Physical Education and has experience with various youth and adult teams in the Federal District, in addition to having coached CEUB Basquete in 2015.
Boccardo comes to Flamengo to focus heavily on the training and development of younger athletes. Vitor has already conducted basketball clinics in the United States and brings with him the experience of having played for the club. During his time as a player for the club, Vitor Boccardo competed in the CBB National League in 2006 and the NBB in 2009/2010, where he played alongside Duda Machado and the idol Marcelinho.
The basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, Furnas – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
