Flamengo won again in style in the sixth edition of the Novo Basquete Brasil. On Monday night (03.02), at the Tijuca Tênis Clube, the Mais Querido defeated Minas by an incredible score of 90 to 59: a difference of 31 points. The game, valid for the 25th round of the qualifying phase, had the red-black wing Marquinhos as the top scorer, with 17 points scored. The result kept Flamengo in the isolated lead of the competition.
Rubro-Negro coach José Neto praised his team. "We expected a tough game, as Minas relies heavily on physicality. We were mentally prepared for it and performed well. In this championship, the most consistent team has an advantage, and consistency is hard to come by. You see, for example, teams winning and losing to others that are lower in the standings," he said.
A notable fact about the red-and-black victory was the distribution of points among the players. All ten of José Neto's players who took the court managed to score. Besides top scorer Marquinhos, other highlights included Meyinsse and Olivinha, both with 15 points, and Gegê, who had a 100% success rate, scoring 11 points.
Point guard Laprovittola, who scored seven points and had six assists, praised the importance of the victory after the poor result in the previous round. "It was a complete game from all of us. We were always focused and played with great intensity. After a loss (to Pinheiros), it was great to respond like this with a win. It's good for the team. We have to be in the same shape in the next games," he said.
Next Thursday (06.02), Flamengo will begin a sequence of three away games. The first match will be against Liga Sorocabana, in São Paulo, at the Gualberto Moreira Gymnasium. Paulistano and São José are the other opponents.
