Fla beats the previously undefeated NBB leader by 21 points at the opponent's home ground; Olivinha scores a double-double
By Communication - Official Club Website - inOn Thursday night (12/19), Flamengo's basketball team defeated Limeira 88-67 at Ginásio Vô Lucato in a match valid for the eleventh round of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB). American Meyinsse was the top scorer of the match with 19 points. Felício led in assists with four, and Olivinha recorded a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds. With this result, the Mais Querido is one of the five leaders in the championship, alongside Limeira, Pinheiros, Paulistano and Mogi das Cruzes.
The first quarter was evenly matched, with both teams playing well, but it was Flamengo who finished ahead 24-18. Gegê was the team's standout with 11 points, alongside Meyinsse, who had eight points and five rebounds. In the second quarter, Marcelinho, who hadn't scored in the first quarter, found his feet and scored the first seven points for Flamengo, who held an 18-point lead over Limeira. Flamengo proved solid on defense, with strong performances from Flamengo's centers, Felício, Shilton, and Meyinsse, in the paint. The first half ended with Flamengo 12 points ahead of Limeira: 49 to 37.
In the third quarter, Olivinha came out inspired and achieved a double-double. Throughout the game, the power forward scored 18 points, including two three-pointers, and 16 rebounds. The red-and-black team remained superior, reaching a nearly 20-point lead, 70-51. In the final quarter, Flamengo secured a solid victory over Limeira, away from home, against the previously undefeated league leaders, 88-67.
"It's always motivating to play against the leader. We knew it would be a tough game, but we did what Neto asked, we got the team right, and we had a good game," said point guard Gegê.
Fla remains in São Paulo for the next match, on Saturday (21.12), against Bauru.
