CUIDAR (Unified Center for Identification and Development of Performance Athletes of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo), which covers eight Olympic sports, and IORJ (Rio de Janeiro Institute of Ophthalmology) have had a partnership since 2017. On their own initiative, IORJ and CUIDAR brought the equipment and professionals so that exams could be performed on all athletes, from the base, within Gávea.

The new phase of the partnership aims to conduct monthly exams at the club's headquarters so that all 810 athletes across nine sports are eligible for the service. Initially, artistic gymnastics athletes received the care, and some were diagnosed with the need for glasses.

Diogo Soares, a standout in artistic gymnastics, has achieved silver and bronze medals at the Youth Olympic Games, silver at the Junior World Championships, a Pan American runner-up position at the senior level, and a spot at the Tokyo Olympics. The Olympic athlete has undergone all his vision tests and is confident that everything is fine.

In the coming weeks, other sports will also participate in the project and will undergo eye exams.

Leading the department, Izabel Miranda, the club's Sports Sciences manager, commented on the importance of the new practice. 

"Because we know that visual quality is very important and greatly impacts sports results. So we need to offer this service, which is free, so it's a strong partnership we've had since 2017."
