After partnering with the Rio de Janeiro Ophthalmology Institute last Tuesday (06.06), CUIDAR (Unified Center for Identification and Development of Performance Athletes) gained another new partner: SONAFE, the National Society of Sports Physiotherapy. The institution, chaired by Luciana de Michelis, formalized the partnership with CUIDAR last Friday (09.06). SONAFE will support the evaluations of the nearly 700 athletes of Mais Querido, as well as the injury prevention program. The partnership will also benefit the club in the exchange of scientific knowledge, through research conducted collaboratively between society and the red-and-black center.
Izabel Rohlfs, Flamengo's Sports Science Manager, explained a little more about the partnership with SONAFE.
"The partnership includes training and updating courses on the prevention and rehabilitation of sports-related musculoskeletal injuries for CRF professionals working in sports initiation, grassroots sports, and high-performance adult sports. Furthermore, SONAFE will offer scientific advice on the prevention and rehabilitation of sports injuries, through consultancy for assessments, reports, and the development of prevention and rehabilitation programs from initiation to high-performance," he said.
The manager added, also evaluating the benefits of the union.
"Associating one of Brazil's leading sports clubs, with great prominence and international recognition, with a renowned scientific institution like SONAFE, dedicated to the prevention of physical injuries to athletes from different sports, is a condition for creating great expectations regarding the probable results of this union," said Izabel.
Luciana de Michelis visited the Rubro-Negro's interdisciplinary Olympic Sports project after the contract was signed and expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, commenting on the plans and expectations.
"The partnership between SONAFE and the CRF will be important in supporting the development and training of the club's physiotherapists, enabling them to better serve athletes, whether focused on the prevention and/or rehabilitation of sports injuries. The exchange of technical and scientific information and clinical experience among professionals will take place in conjunction with physiotherapy undergraduates and professors from CRF and SONAFE partner institutions, which creates opportunities for students. This exchange contributes to strengthening the profession of Sports Physiotherapy," said Luciana.
