CUIDAR promotes a lecture in partnership with the Brazilian Doping Control Authority

Flamengo's artistic swimming athletes were the first to participate in Flamengo's Anti-Doping Education Program.

Last Saturday (16), CUIDAR carried out another action of the Flamengo Anti-Doping Education Program. In partnership with the Brazilian Doping Control Authority, the red-black nucleus promoted an educational lecture on the topic for artistic swimming athletes. The activity was given by the former gymnast and National Secretary of ABCD, Luisa Parente, and by the director, André Siqueira. The moderator was Dr. Claudio Cardone, Medical Coordinator of CUIDAR.

Guided by the information and education programs established by the World Anti-Doping Code, ABCD provides knowledge on the subject through lectures, seminars, and meetings with professionals, among other forms of outreach. Aiming to promote anti-doping culture throughout the sports community, ABCD created the "Fair Play" campaign, which seeks direct and indirect participation and dissemination of the importance of the issue among participants. Rubro-Negro was the first Olympic club to join the movement, which now has more than 30 institutions.

"Flamengo's participation in the Fair Play campaign is crucial for us, as it's the club with the largest fan base in the country. This allows us to bring the anti-doping culture to the largest possible audience. Furthermore, it's a club with a tradition of developing Olympic athletes, representing a large portion of the youth teams, which is our main target audience. Thus, publicizing the ABCD channels helps bring information to athletes, coaches, and families, while Flamengo also fulfills its role in anti-doping education," said Secretary Luisa Parente.

Jullia Catharino, who competes for Mais Querido and the Brazilian artistic swimming team, took advantage of the lecture to ask questions that were clarified during the activity. She emphasized the importance of addressing the topic.

"We really have to study this topic daily because it's very important and sometimes we overlook it, but in reality, it's something we need to pay close attention to and understand everything about, being fully aware of all the consequences and processes," said Jullia. "The club gave an incredible talk for both the athletes already on the national team and those in the youth academy who will be starting to have contact. I found it very important, very enlightening, and a very good initiative."

Swimmers from the Senior and Junior teams participated in the online event, along with parents and guardians of the younger athletes. Members of the coaching staff, CUIDAR professionals, managers from other sports, and the Executive Director of Olympic Sports, Marcelo Vido, also joined the group.
