Last week, the CUIDAR physiotherapy team, in partnership with SONAFE, conducted dynamic functional assessments with rowing and artistic gymnastics athletes. These vital activities served to observe differences in flexibility, mobility, instability, and muscular imbalances in each athlete. Alexandre Montenegro, physiotherapy coordinator, explained to the Official Website how the procedures were performed.

"When we develop an assessment of this type, we divide the body into quadrants. For example, trunk, hips, lower and upper limbs. We select the tests based on the movements of each sport. These tests are now scientifically well accepted and help us develop a specific assessment for each sport based on the movements and the injury rate it presents," said Alexandre.

The coordinator detailed the sport's gestures and their importance for optimal athlete preparation. In the example cited, he discussed the evaluation of a rowing athlete.

"It is the repetitive movement of the rower in the boat that, associated with his positioning, causes one side of the torso to be overloaded in relation to the other, generating an asymmetry", concluded Montenegro.
