To ensure the health and well-being of its athletes, CUIDAR held a lecture on the importance of psychology and nutrition for sports. The event took place last Wednesday (13), in the Salão Nobre da Gávea, and was attended by athletes from the base and technical committees of the Rubro-Negro artistic swimming and water polo, as well as parents and guardians. The lectures were given by nutritionist Renata Parra and psychologist Paulo Gasparini, both from Mais Querido.

"Since the talk was primarily aimed at parents and athletes from the club's youth teams, I began by explaining macronutrients, such as carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, explaining the importance of each in sports and for health. I then continued by discussing micronutrients, which are vitamins and minerals, and also explaining the consequences of a possible deficiency in the body and the benefits for the athlete's health," said the club's nutritionist, before adding:

"Another important topic we discussed was the food pyramid, covering the basic concepts of which foods should be consumed in greater and lesser quantities, as well as highlighting the importance of hydration and some more relevant aspects regarding an athlete's diet, such as eating in short intervals between meals and weekend versus weekday nutrition," he concluded.

Paulo Gasparini, a Flamengo psychologist who works at CUIDAR, also spoke about the main topics covered in the lecture.

"I explained a little about how sports psychology works, where and how it operates, distinguishing that the approach is not therapy, but rather the development of the PHP technique, which are psychological skills, the main ones being focus, concentration, communication, and anxiety control. In these topics, I addressed the factors that generate anxiety, stress, and the dangers of social media, how this is affecting young people and creating a compulsion to constantly be involved with Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter," said Gasparini, who continued.

"I tried to guide the parents of these athletes on how they can control this, as there are already people undergoing therapeutic treatments to reduce this compulsion to use devices, and these are some factors that hinder performance, because the athlete becomes worried, always agitated and stressed, wanting to monitor social media all the time," he concluded.

Launched in 2016, CUIDAR has established itself as a vital part of the red-and-blacks' daily routine and crucial to achieving results. Today, the center has 39 healthcare professionals dedicated to the physical and mental well-being of those who defend the Sacred Mantle.
