Last Friday (17), Clube de Regatas do Flamengo implemented the internationally used protocol for cerebral concussion. In partnership with Ubrain, CUIDAR carried out training and qualification for the club's health professionals.

Mais Querido is a pioneer in implementing the program, which monitors the brain and builds a database of red-and-black athletes, from youth to professional, using the collected information as a clinical tool for treatment and support in returning to sports after concussion. The protocol will also be essential in exploring the athlete's potential for training guidance, with the goal of improving performance and preventing injuries.

Responsible for implementing the program at Rubro-Negro, Dr. Cláudio Cardone began the work, which was attended by the Vice President of Olympic Sports, Delana Franco; the Director of the Department, Marcelo Vido; and the Manager of Sports Sciences, Izabel Miranda, in the Rogério Steinberg auditorium.

"Flamengo already has 'race, love, and passion' in its fan chant, and we see that the club has been concerned with science for some time now, as it is closely linked to the sport's bottom line. We know this; it's very important, and Flamengo is opening its doors and investing more and more," said the doctor.

Concussion is an extremely common injury in contact sports. Epidemiological data on injuries from the 2004 Olympic Games showed that the most prevalent site of injury was the head (21%), followed by the ankle and knee (13% each). Over the course of two days, physical therapists, psychologists, fitness trainers, and other professionals from Mais Querido participated in training led by Dr. Cardone, from Flamengo, and Dr. Moacir Silva Neto and Dr. Ricardo Eid, from Ubrain.
