Flamengo is a pioneer in implementing a concussion protocol

By - in
Starting this Friday (17), through a partnership between CUIDAR and Ubrain, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo will implement the internationally used concussion protocol. The club is a pioneer in implementing the program that monitors the brain and creates a database of Flamengo athletes, from youth to professional. This information will be used as a clinical tool for treatment and support in returning to sport after concussion. The protocol will also be essential in exploring the athlete's potential for training guidance, with the goal of improving performance and preventing injuries.

Concussion is an extremely common injury in contact sports. Epidemiological data on injuries from the 2004 Olympic Games showed that the most prevalent site of injury was the head (21%), followed by the ankle and knee (13% each).

In the US, concussion protocols are implemented in schools, high school and college sports leagues, and professional leagues. The programs are based on preseason assessments, computerized cognitive testing, and training for professionals, athletes, and parents. In the world's major leagues, such as the NFL, NBA, NHL, MBL, and the US Soccer Federation, all teams are required to administer computerized cognitive testing in the preseason and use it as one of the criteria for selection. decision to return to sport after concussion.

Clube de Regatas do Flamengo will be the pioneer club in Brazil to adopt a control program, based on recommendations from FIFA and the International Olympic Committee, and could be a pioneer in the use and investigation of correlations between cognitive performance and
sports performance and its implications for improving performance and preventing injuries.

The program will be launched this Friday, May 17, with the training of several Mais Querido professionals over two days.
