CUIDAR's participation improves Mais Querido's results

Multidisciplinary professionals are essential in the recovery of athletes

Last week, Flamengo's swimming athletes achieved strong results at the Brazil Trophy, bringing home eight medals and placing the club fifth overall in the sport's most prestigious tournament. Among the many professionals involved in the process are those from the Unified Center for Identification and Development of Performance Athletes (CUIDAR).

The department, launched in October 2016 with the goal of improving interdisciplinarity in sports, directly influences the team's performance in competitions. This is because the center is guided by the idea of combining athlete training with work from various areas of sports, working together to complement each individual's development. CUIDAR professionals work in six areas: physical preparation, technique, tactics, and intellectual, educational, and emotional development.

Sports Science Manager and project creator, Izabel Miranda, commented on the group's participation in the competitions.

"The support of the multidisciplinary team that worked on the Brazil Trophy was crucial, for example, helping athletes recover from the qualifying rounds to the final. The placement was excellent, as it's the most important championship in Brazilian swimming, and the athlete support system in place was a significant contributor," said Izabel.

"Not only in swimming, but in all the sports we work with, the results have been improving. Now, we've been working to reduce the number of injuries and, consequently, increase athletes' availability for training and competitions," he concluded.

CUIDAR, whose physical space is located at the club's headquarters in Gávea, serves all of Mais Querido's Olympic sports athletes and has the support of several partners such as SONAFE (National Society of Sports Physiotherapy) and the Hermes Pardini laboratory, responsible for carrying out medical examinations for the red-blacks.
