Almost everyone knows that in 1912, much of Flamengo's first soccer team was formed by dissident players from Fluminense, the previous year's champion. What few know are the details of that historic year, when the British sport began to be played at the Rubro-Negro, giving rise to what decades later would become Brazil's most beloved club.

The book "A Journey to 1912. Flamengo's Football Surge", by Marcelo Abinader, provides an account of 1912, placing side by side notable historical events of that year and the history of the emergence of football at Flamengo, with details of all the games and descriptions of the main events.  

The book also details the first matches against América, Paysandu, Bangu, São Cristóvão, and Fluminense. Now in its second edition, the book is priced at R$38,00 on the website of its publisher, Águia Dourada (https://www.editoraaguiadourada.com.br/index2.php).

Marcelo Abinader, 46, from Rio de Janeiro, is a doctor specializing in acupuncture. Passionate about soccer, especially Flamengo and the Brazilian national team, Abinader was 11 years old when he began recording the results of the Flamengo and the national team's matches in notebooks. He began delving into the details in 1978, when he also began recording the goalscorers, game locations, and other data. As an adult, he was faced with the choice of throwing everything away or completing the research. He opted for the latter. In search of data, Abinader began to visit the National Library and the offices of Rio de Janeiro newspapers in his free time, at his own expense.
