The Truth About Flamengo's Water and Telephone Bills

By - in

In this Friday's Extracampo column, journalist Marluci Martins once again presents distorted information about the administration of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo.

This time, when he writes about our club's water and telephone expenses, he states that we currently have higher expenses than in 2012.

This is not true. In order to provide accurate information, we present the actual data (based on bills charged by Cedae and the mobile operator).

About water bills:
Annual Assessment:
Average consumption/day:
2012: 328 m3
2013 (current management): 272 m3
17% reduction

Average Amounts Paid (Not considering installments):
2012: BRL 359.000,00
2013 (current management): R$ 292.000,00
19% reduction

Assessment 1st Quarter (January to April)
Average Consumption/Day:
2012: 343 m3
2013 (current management): 306 m3
2014 (current management): 293 m3
Reduction of 14,5% compared to 2012.

Average amounts paid (without considering the payment of the installment debt):
2012: BRL 379.000,00
2013 (current management): R$ 348.000,00
2014 (current management): R$ 340.000,00

Nominal reduction of 10,3% compared to 2012. It is worth noting that this reduction becomes even greater when we apply the inflation adjustment between 2012 and 2014.

It's important to emphasize that the four-month assessment of each year shows continuous and growing savings, despite the necessary increase in water consumption at the soccer field during 2014—due to the turf's refurbishment. The article also included the water bill for all the club's properties and referred to it as if it were only for the clubhouse.

Regarding the pool closure, the column claims it was done solely due to the cost of the water bill. It neglects to mention the fact that this decision was based on a technical report that indicated a high risk to Flamengo members due to a crack in the bottom of the pool that compromised its structure.

About cell phone bills:
1 - The article claims that management increased cell phone spending without any benchmark. Below are the average monthly expenses provided by the carrier, showing that the current management drastically reduced bills, thus confirming another error in the text:

Average 2011 - 16,066.79
Average 2012 - 16,934.68
Average 2013 (current management) - 6,371.79
Average 2014 (current management) - 8,657.82

Number of Mobile Device Users:
Dec 2012: 117
May 2014 (current management): 91

Nextel Expense Comparison:
December 2012: R$ 15.946,18
May 2014 (current administration): R$ 1.645,55

Number of Nextel Users
December 2012: 94
May 2014 (current management): 19

2 - The cell phone bill for February: once again, the article is in fact incorrect, as there was an overcharge of R$4 due to a mistake by the carrier, which has already been disputed and is being analyzed for credit. Therefore, deducting the incorrectly charged amount, we return to our average.

Flamengo doesn't understand the rationale for publishing water bill statements taken from inside the club, much less why this publication is distorted, attempting to create a negative image for the club.

Who benefits from this type of action that is harmful to Clube de Regatas do Flamengo? This is the question we'd like answered.
