Adílio says it's important for players to understand Flamengo from an early age. Flamengo's dominance this season in the youth teams received another boost this Wednesday, after winning the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Cup (OPG) in the junior category against Fluminense in Laranjeiras. Fluminense won the match 3-0, but the Red-Black team had won the first leg 5-0, taking the trophy. The good results are encouraging coach Adílio. He emphasizes the importance of players understanding Flamengo's significance from an early age.
"I've been working with the youth and youth teams for five years and I've seen the club win everything." Adílio, youth coach, "It wasn't possible for Fluminense today; scoring five goals is very difficult. They did well, and we have to congratulate them. But the approach here is very good; the players are understanding what Flamengo is all about. I've been working with the youth and youth teams for five years and I've seen the club win everything. We crowned this work with another title this Wednesday. All these players here are ready to play in the professional ranks; there's no one standout; the highlight is the group. Renato Augusto, who helped Flamengo secure a Libertadores spot in the last game, for example, was here with us last year," he says.
Paulo Sérgio was already important for the club playing among the professionals. Striker Kayke, who has already been selected among the professionals, believes that the club is on the right path to achieve even more success from now on.
- The important thing is that the work is being done well, Flamengo is showing that it is on the right path - he says.
Erick Flores was relieved with the title after a game in which Fluminense scared the red-blacks.
- It wasn't the result we expected in this match, but everything worked out in the end - he summarizes.
Paulo Sérgio, who was an active participant in the professional group this year, hopes that his success in the juniors will lead him back to the main team.
"We're very happy with the title. Some players who return from the professional team to the juniors tend to settle down, but I don't think that happened to me. I had an injury problem, but I hope to return to the professional team," he says.
