Andrade and Adílio comment on 28 years since the Libertadores title
Professional coach and Masters team player discuss historic achievement

November 23rd is on the calendar of every Flamengo fan interested in the club's history. Last Monday marked the 28th anniversary of Flamengo's Libertadores title victory in Uruguay, where Flamengo defeated Cobreloa 2-0. In an interview with Flamengo's official website during the opening of the FlaConcept store, coach Andrade said he hadn't noticed the coincidence. "I'm bad at remembering dates. I'm very attentive in my daily life. My wife even complains," he joked.
Andrade recalled the red card that forced him out of the game in the first half. "It was my only red card against Flamengo. It was a very tense game. One of their players had made a strong tackle on Junior, and I retaliated, especially given the atmosphere created in the previous game. The referee had already sent off a Cobreloa player, and my red card was a way to level the playing field. It's a split-second thing; you don't think about it at the time."
Adílio said he makes a point of remembering those dates every year. "That movie comes to mind. That group was really cool, and that title boosted Flamengo and paved the way for the World Cup." According to Adílio, the Cobreloa players' savagery is still etched on his face today. "That cut is right here on my face. Blood came out and dripped onto my shirt. And I said this title had to go to Brazil."
Adílio also commented on the incident where Anselmo punched Chilean defender Mario Soto, who was responsible for the main attacks on Flamengo players during the match in Santiago, Chile. "Anselmo fulfilled every Brazilian's dream by striking back."
