After winning the title, Angelim recalls his childhood

Defender thanks Flamengo for his career success

In the rearview mirror, he's left with the hard work on the field in the Ceará countryside, where he spent his humble childhood alongside his father, mother, and eight siblings. Yesterday, facing the Copacabana sea, Ronaldo Angelim said that, as he scored the title-winning goal, he couldn't think of anything other than the hard years before arriving at Flamengo.

Born in São Paulo but raised in Ceará, Angelim learned that people from the Northeast never forget their roots. Quite the contrary. It's in them that he finds the fuel to keep going, in search of glory.

\

"When I scored, I remembered my difficult past, when I worked in the fields and drilled wells. Back in the Northeast, sometimes we have to sell our lunch to buy dinner. My biggest goal is to help my brothers buy their own homes. As long as I have the strength to play, I'll keep going," Angelim recalled.

The defender, who cried after seeing images of his family on TV after the game, made a point of thanking Flamengo and remembering his arrival at the club in 2006.

\

"Flamengo is very different; they have several players for the same position. At the other clubs I played for, I was an absolute favorite. Here, I had to work really hard. That's why I told Andrade I'll play wherever he wants. I've even played left-back. If he thinks I should go to the stands, I'll go without a problem," Ronaldo Angelim said humbly.

The scorer of the sixth-title goal, whose contract expires at the end of this month, reiterated that he has not yet been contacted by the board. He also reiterated that his desire is to remain at Gávea in 2010.

\

"I owe everything I have to Flamengo. They helped me provide some comfort to my family. No one from the club has contacted me yet. But we'll resolve everything calmly," he explained.

The goal scored against Grêmio, according to Angelim, was the result of a rehearsed play, during training at Ninho do Urubu.
