Flamengo has won its last seven decisions on penalties

The World Cup brings back memories of tense and joyful moments experienced during penalty shootouts for Flamengo fans. Throughout the club's history, the "Mais Querido" has won 30 penalty shootouts.
The first of these victories was against Fluminense on February 23, 1975. On that occasion, they defeated their opponent 5-4 for the João Havelange Trophy at the Maracanã Stadium. This was one of four penalty shootout victories against their rivals, making them, along with Botafogo, the team most often defeated by the Red-Blacks. Three years later, the same Fluminense would lose another match, for the Teresa Herrena Trophy, held in La Coruña.
The victorious 1981 generation also made history with significant penalty shootout victories. The team defeated Grêmio in the Copa Punta Del Este final, further cementing the team's reputation as a star-studded team.
Ten years later, Flamengo traveled to France for the Paris International Tournament. There, the Red-Blacks defeated Paris Saint-Germain – the tournament's host – at the Parc de Princes stadium. This wasn't the only time Flamengo defeated international teams. In 1993, for example, they defeated River Plate at the Maracanã stadium in the quarterfinals of the Champions League Super Cup.
The club's last penalty shootout victory was in 2011, against Vasco da Gama. On May 1st of that year, Flamengo won the Taça Rio and Carioca with a 3-1 victory over Cruzmaltino. It's worth noting that of the last seven penalty shootouts held, Flamengo has won all of them.
