Not even on its 112th anniversary—this Thursday—Flamengo finds itself far removed from the controversy surrounding whether it is a five-time Brazilian champion. In Gávea, the following inscription can be seen on the side of the commemorative cake: first fifth. The fans who brought the replica of the fifth-time trophy to the match against Santos are present at the club and have created a reconstruction, including a silver painting.
At the club, several football matches are being held with the presence of artists, including Bruno, Zico's son and whom Galinho himself considers the most red-black of the Antunes Coimbra family.
Around 300 to 400 people packed the football department, and many events are taking place this Thursday. The last of these will take place at 16 p.m., when the Flamengo Choir will give an official performance.

To further please the fans, the board announced this Wednesday the renewal of defender Fábio Luciano's contract until the end of next year.
Although Flamengo won important titles during this period, such as the 2006 Copa do Brasil, every time November 15th rolled around, the situation changed. They were either fighting relegation or had nothing left to play for in the Brasileirão.
The last time this didn't happen was in 1997. Rubro-Negro celebrated its anniversary by qualifying for the semi-final quadrangular of the Brazilian Championship, in its best campaign since the 1992 Brazilian title.
The perfect birthday present this year would be qualifying for the Libertadores, but while that doesn't come, the fans are eagerly awaiting the cherry on the cake.
