Lawyer for clubs in the South American Football Conference says FIFA needs to intervene in the case

The fight against high-altitude matches is taking on a new dimension. This statement comes from Pedro Trengrouse, the lawyer representing Brazilian clubs at the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL). In an interview with the Redação SporTV program this Wednesday, he reported that a representation has been made to FIFA demanding that the organization compel CONMEBOL to comply with its maximum statutes (watch the video below). According to Trengrouse, a hearing held at the Court of Arbitration for Sport last week in France strengthens Brazil's claim.

"The hearing ruled in favor of the Brazilian clubs and in favor of those who want to protect life. But CONMEBOL, in violation of FIFA's statutes, refused to accept the Court's jurisdiction. And CONMEBOL should have already adjusted its statutes to reflect FIFA's statutes," he explains.

Brazilians involved in the Copa Libertadores da América are trying to cancel soccer matches in cities located more than 2.750 meters above sea level. FIFA recently banned South American qualifying matches for the upcoming World Cup from being played above the permitted altitude without a minimum two-week adaptation period.
